Frames, Stop Codons, and Longest ORFs
Translating a nucleic acid sequence into a protein requires choosing a reading frame. A single strand has three possible forward reading frames (+1, +2, +3). Often, you also need to check the reverse complement (-1, -2, -3). This tool handles all 6 frames instantly.
Modes of Operation
- Full Translate: Translates every codon from start to
finish. Stop codons are marked with an asterisk (
*). - Longest ORF: Scans the frame for the longest uninterrupted segment between stop codons.
Use Cases
- •Scanning cDNA for coding sequences.
- •Predicting peptide products from novel transcripts.
